Reduction of flows and increased variability due to climate change, compliance with new regulations, community and other water user engagement: these are some of the challenges faced by hydroelectric generators that can be addressed with our solutions.
The goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions will require our electricity generation matrix to phase out generation from hydrocarbons. To achieve these goals, hydroelectric generation will continue to be essential, contributing to nearly 50% of clean generation in Chile, even in one of the driest years in history like 2021.
However, successfully developing a new project or operating an existing one is becoming increasingly challenging as hydrology becomes more variable and regulations require control of extractions and ecological flows. Additionally, society has higher expectations for transparency and communication.
A new run-of-river generation project applied our solutions to address these challenges. Flow telemetry equipment with radar for intake channels, gate automation to optimize generation, consultancy services for regulatory compliance, software for integration with other users in the watershed.
